Butch Cassidy is Born 1866) and Sydney Portier Wins Oscar (1964)

Butch Cassidy, the last of the great western train-robbers, is born on this day in 1866 in Beaver, Utah Territory.


On this day in 1964, Sydney Poitier becomes the first African American to win the Oscar for Best Actor, for his role as a construction worker who helps build a chapel in Lilies of the Field (1963).
