Duchess of Kent converts to Catholicism - 1994


On January 11, 1994, Katharine, Duchess of Kent, converts to Catholicism. She is the wife of Prince Edward, Duke of Kent a grandson of the King George V and first cousin of Queen Elizabeth II. Katharine is the first member of the Royal Family to become a Roman Catholic since James II in the 17th century. The Duchess of Kent is strongly associated with the world of music, and has performed as a member of several choirs. She is also well known as the presenter of trophies at the annual Wimbledon Tennis championships – a role she inherited from her mother-in-law, Princess Marina, and role she has since relinquished.
